About the motorsport stars

Mika Häkkinen
Career highlights for Mika are two World Drivers’ Championships with the McLaren team in 1998 and 1999. His determination is also evident from his remarkable recovery from the accident during training for the 1995 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide, which sent Häkkinen sideways into the crash barrier at 120 mph, resulting in a skull fracture and month-long stay in hospital. Fortunately, he was back on the track by the start of the 1996 season. An incredible comeback.

David Coulthard
Scottish Coulthard, known as ‘DC’, has won the Formula 1 Grand Prix an incredible 13 times, with his first win in 1995 in Portugal. Having led the majority of the race, it was there that he secured his first Formula One victory. He has started races from pole position a total of 12 times and achieved a remarkable 62 podiums. David also holds the record of the highest scoring British driver ever with 535 points. Since retiring, he is now enjoying his eighth year of presenting on TV with the last six years covering F1 for Channel 4.

Tom Kristensen
One of Denmark’s greatest sports stars, Tom Kristensen won the 24-hour Le Mans race an impressive nine times with six of his wins in consecutive years, an accolade that remains to this day. He is affectionately called ‘Mr Le Mans’ for this reason and was given a knighthood by the Queen of Denmark in 2014. Although Tom Kristensen retired from professional motorsport in the same year, he also enjoys racing in the UK at the Goodwood Revival, winning the most expensive race in the world; the Kinrara Trophy in 2016 whilst driving a Ferrari 250GT and coming second in a Jaguar E-Type the following year in 2017.
